Anyone who knows me, knows I’m a big fan of snacks. Snacking can be great for so many reasons: it helps maintain blood sugar, keeps hunger in check and promotes weight loss/maintenance. As long as we’re snacking on the right things. Too often, we turn to the vending machine or find ourselves mindlessly digging into the bag of chips while watching TV. For those struggling to lose weight or trying to make healthier choices, this is a big problem. One thing I teach my clients is to plan for purposeful, functional snacks. Make sure the snack is doing something for you! I recommend snacks that include protein, healthy fats and/or fiber. 100-Calorie type packs just don’t do anything for me (or you for that matter!). Common snacks for me include homemade trail mix baggies or a fruit paired with nut butter. But what if you’re so busy and don’t want to have to shop and prepare your own snacks? Enter GoBites, a snack delivery system.
What the heck are GoBites? They’re portion-controlled “mini-meals” made from dried fruit, nuts, seeds and dark chocolate. There are over 20 flavor combinations and many are gluten-free and organic.
How do GoBites work? Basically, you tell the folks at GoBites a little bit about yourself and they customize your snack order. Or if you prefer, you can customize your snack pack for yourself. GoBites come in boxes of 14 and you decide how often you’d like to receive them. So if you’d like to enjoy 1 GoBite a day as a snack, you can set your delivery to every 2 weeks and you don’t have to think about it again! Pretty convenient.
Are they “RD Approved”? Absolutely. GoBites are an easy product for RDs to get behind for a few reasons. They range from 150-250 calories per portion, which is great for most people as a snack. They’re made up of whole, real foods, and chock full of healthy fats, protein and fiber, which are all things I recommend on a daily basis. Most importantly, GoBites can help tackle some of the main roadblocks we face when it comes to meal planning and weight management. GoBites are convenient, they’re portion controlled and the variety of flavors beat boredom! Even if you’re very particular in your flavor preferences, GoBites has a pack you will enjoy. Check out my thoughts on the flavors I received below.
Are GoBites expensive? Not really. You get 14 GoBites for $27.86 with FREE delivery, so that’s $1.99 per pack. Most packaged trailmix or granola you’ll find in the supermarket is at least that much!
That’s all great..but what do they taste like? I received samples of the Incan Treasure, Apricot Gluten-Free Granola, Ceylon Spice Mix and Das Gutt and was really impressed. My favorite was definitely the Incan Treasure! The mango was so good and not too chewy like it can be in other snacks. And the cacao nibs, raisins and almonds were perfect compliments.
Next favorite: Das Gutt. This one was right up my alley and is actual very similar to the mix I make on my own. A little sweet, a little salty, super tasty!
The Ceylon Spice Mix (not pictured) was a surprise treat for me. It’s just curry cashews and sesame sticks, so I was expecting an overwhelming curry flavor, but it was just enough to add flavor and spice! And the sesame sticks provided a perfect crunch.
Last but not least, I sampled the Apricot Gluten-Free Granola. It has granola, cranberries, coconut, cashews, apricots and sesame seeds. I’m not a fan of coconut or apricots, so this one wasn’t my favorite. I tried it, and immediately handed it over to the coconut-loving boyfriend, who gobbled it right up!
I sampled just four of the 20+ flavor options and would honestly recommend them all. One of my favorite things about this product is the variety! Check out the entire “menu” of GoBites here.
So my final review: I’d absolutely recommend GoBites! They’re obviously not approprite for anyone with nut allergies or with certain other dietary restrictions, but overall they’re a great option for healthy snacking!
