You know that Righteous Brothers tune, probably made most famous by Maverick and Goose in Top Gun? Well it pretty much describes my current attitude toward running. I’ve lost that lovin feeling. Since the marathon, I’ve had no real desire to run. I’m not motivated to get out the door for an early morning run and don’t feel bad when I don’t get to it after work either. Since I’m not running, I’m trying my best to stay active through my new love, CrossFit. I don’t miss running yet (although I thought about going for a run once or twice), but I do miss sharing my training recaps…so I thought it might be fun to post last week’s workouts (Crossfit only!). Let’s do it:
We started out working on the snatch (where you get the barbell from ground to overhead in an explosive swift movement). And then the WOD (see picture above)…dun dun dun. This workout destroyed my legs for almost the entire week! 1/4 mile of walking lunges within the workout=ouchies!
Wednesday 12/3: I was pretty much terrified to go to this workout because my legs were so sore from Monday. But once I got moving, I loosened up and it felt good. The workout was 4 rounds (each for time) with 2 minutes of rest in between each round:
- 30-calorie row
- 20 wall balls (I only used a 12-lb ball)
- 10 box jump-overs (20″ box)
Our score was our slowest of all 4 rounds, which for me was 4:03. I told myself I’d take it easy on this workout, but once the clock was on I got competitive with myself and pushed it. Brutal!
Friday 12/5: I hit up boyfriend’s class with CF buddy Liz for a much needed Friday night WOD.
The workout included some running (yay, I’m a runner!), but also a bunch of those Olympic Lifting movements I haven’t practiced a lot…so I knew it’d be a challenge for me. It looked like this:
I finished in 15:08 and used 42.5lb for the weight. It was meant to be on the lighter side, but I went light for me because I’m still not comfortable with these movements. I have a lot to learn!!
Sunday 12/7: This was the day where I contemplated going for a run, but boyfriend somehow convinced me to go to the gym with him instead. We went to a 10am class at CrossFit Lighthouse II and it was a total shoulder/arm burner. The WOD was four 4-minute AMRAPs (As Many Rounds/Reps As Possible) with 5-minutes of rest in between each round:
- 10 pull-ups (I used bands)
- 10 Handstand Push-ups (I did these off a box)
- 10 air squats (yay, no modification for me!)
- 10 push-ups (on my knees)
- 10 Toes-to-Bar (knees to chest for me)
Woof. I always get so lost with counting reps and rounds while working out, but I think I got through 5 rounds and 40 reps, so I completed five total rounds and then all the way through 10 push-ups. I felt good, but these are more of my weak areas (arms & abs), so I have work to do!
Here’s to more CrossFit this week…and who knows? Maybe a run!?
