So I’m Training Again…

In my New Year’s Intentions post, I mentioned that I registered for a spring half marathon, the Frozen Penguin Half on March 7th.  I ran Brooklyn using a 10-week plan and since March 7 is a little over 8 weeks from today, I’m a little behind.  That’s okay though, because I enlisted coach Abby again to get me back on track and we started an official plan last week.  

Week 1 included just 11 miles, including a few miles on New Year’s Eve with the boyfriend to bring 2014 to an end.


I also made it to two CrossFit workouts last week, the second of which I wanted to share.  It was brutal!1

15 minute AMRAP (As Many Reps as Possible)

  • 20 Clean & Jerks (95/65) —>A ground to overhead movement, explained here.
  • 30 Double Unders—>I modified this to singles, doubling the amount
  • 10 Burpees Over Bar—>just gross.
  • 15 C&J  (115/80)
  • 30 Double Unders
  • 10 Burpees Over Bar
  • 10 C&J  (135/95)
  • 30 Double Unders
  • 10 Burpees Over Bar
  • 5  C&J (155/105)
  • 30 Double Unders
  • 10 Burpees Over Bar

I didn’t finish within the 15-minute time cap but got through 3 of the burpees in the last set, so scored 203 of the total 210 possible reps.  The weights for the clean & jerks went up each set, but since I’m still working on learning form I started low and increased gradually.  My weight started at 45lb, then increased by 10lb each set, finishing with 5 clean and jerks at 75lb.  Getting there! 😉

Week 2 kicked off with a CrossFit class last night and a chilly few miles this morning.  

 The WOD last night was as follows:

7 Rounds for Time:

  • 5 Thrusters (95/65)—>I used 45 lb
  • 10 box jumps (20″)—>I did 20″ step-ups
  • 10 push-ups—>Modified to my knees
  • 100m sprint

Woof.  I finished in 13:58, which I was pretty happy with but I definitely felt it during my run this morning.  Which, BTW was freakin cold!!! 18 degrees, real feel of 13!  Eek, I guess winter training is in full effect!  Stay tuned for more workout updates as my training cycle progresses.
