Weekend Update

Get it?  Anyone else watch the SNL 40th Anniversary last night?  I didn’t watch the entire thing since it was past my bedtime, but definitely plan to go back and watch what I missed.  Weekend Update is always one of my favorite parts of the show and this morning I’m here with my own weekend update.

Friday night, I left work and headed to the gym for a workout.  The WOD was basically all of my weaknesses, but rather than shy away from it, I showed up and used lighter weights/modified as needed.  Here’s what it looked like:

4 Rounds Each for Time (score slowest round):

21 Thrusters (I used only 35lb, probably could’ve/should’ve used a little more…)

21 Pull-ups (using a band)

42 Double Unders (I did 84 singles)

My slowest round was 4:36 and I definitely felt it in my shoulders/back, but probably could have gone a little heavier.

Saturday, we woke up to some heartbreaking news.  Boyfriend’s dog, Gunner, had surgery on Friday afternoon to remove a blockage and though he went home the same night, he passed away at home.  He was such a good dog and will be missed so much.  He’s off to the Rainbow Bridge, but will live on in our hearts.  RIP Gunner. <3

Later in the day on Saturday, I hoped to lighten the mood a bit by suggesting we visit Dough Hut in Long Beach.  Their donuts are made fresh daily in their storefront and they have flavors like French Toast, Smores, Fruit Pebbles and Maple Bacon.  Everyone raves about this place, so we’ve been dying to check it out.  Boyfriend and his dad tried the French Toast and Cinnamon versions, while his mom and I went with the standard chocolate with sprinkles.  And in case you’re wondering, the Dough Hut totally lives up to the hype!  These donuts were amazing!

Though we had heavy hearts, I am still thankful I was able to spend the love holiday with my love.  I’m not a big fan of Valentine’s Day and usually like to treat it like any other day.  I have a guy who understands that I don’t love flowers, diamonds, champagne and all that hoopla, but he still went out of his way to get me a gift he knew I would love.  How perfect is this sterling silver Celtic Knot Heart pendant?

Although I think Valentine’s Day is a total Hallmark holiday, I gave in and got boyfriend a gift too.  It was just a card and a gourmet bar of dark chocolate with bacon and smoked salt, but I think he liked it because the chocolate is already gone! 😉

Finally, if you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably seen that I’ve been keeping up with the #BringingYogaBack challenge with Prana.  I have to say I’m pretty proud of myself for sticking to it, even though some of the poses are totally out of my comfort zone.  I plan on posting a recap after the 12 days are over, but here’s a behind-the-scenes moment from one of the photo shoots:

So there you have my weekend recap!  I’m off from work today and it’s freezing outside, so I’m staying indoors, sipping hot tea under a blanket and studying for the NASM exam until I head to the gym tonight.

Your turn:  What was your favorite moment from SNL 40?  How was your Valentine’s Day?  Favorite donut flavor?  Go!

  1. CHOCOLATE SPRINKLE IS MY FAVORITE. Your picture is killing me. Must. Get. One. In. June. Again I am so sorry about Gunner, my best to you all. Wishing you and Mike joy in the memories, and I’m sure there’s plenty of great ones!

  2. Those donuts look AMAZING! My favourite flavour is Tim Hortons “Boston Cream.” My Nana used to take me for one when I have professional development days at school so they remind me of her and are delicious!

I’m so sorry to hear about Gunner 🙁 Thinking about you guys! I know how tough it is to lose a pet!

My Valentines Day was pretty good. I spent it with my Marathon Club and then trying to kick this darn cold! My son and I stayed home and watched movies and cuddled on the couch. I’m not one for the hoopla surrounding the Hallmark Holiday either 😉

    Good luck studying!!
