Here We Go!

Is it just me or did yesterday/last night feel like social media got out of control?  Between the Llama Drama and The Dress controversy, my twitter and Facebook feeds were giving me anxiety.  Yesterday was a rest day for me (hallelujah!) and I was trying to spend a quiet night studying for the NASM CPT exam.  That didn’t happen.  I pulled out my text book and notes, but I just couldn’t focus.  It wasn’t the llamas or the dress on my mind…it was the buildup to the CrossFit Open announcement!

The first workout of the 2015 CrossFit Open was announced last night and I was equal parts nervous and excited leading up to the live announcment.  I’ll be participating in the scaled version of the workouts, but there still may be movements I can’t do or weights I can’t lift.  YET.  Emphasis on the yet! As I mentioned here before, I’m participating in the Open this year to see where I’m currently at in CrossFit and to use it as a measurement going forward.

 Also, I’m excited that my new Nanos & Lifters arrived this week, so I can break them in during the workouts.  We’ll be doing the workouts on Sundays at my gym, so stay tuned for my posts (here and on IG/twitter) each week, as I’ll be sharing my experience as I go.  For anyone who is not CrossFit obsessed, here’s what the first workout is:

Workout 15.1

9-minute AMRAP:
15 toes-to-bars
10 deadlifts
5 snatches
  (M 115 lb. /  F 75 lb.)

Workout 15.1a

1-rep-max clean and jerk

  6-minute time cap

For the scaled version, I’ll be doing hanging knee raises and using 55 lb for deadlifts and snatches (for women).  I haven’t done that much weight for a snatch during a WOD yet, but I feel confident and will give it my best shot.  I have to say I’m more excited than I am nervous!  I’m going to try really hard to just enjoy the process and learn/grow as an athlete.  Oh, and I’ll make sure to have some fun too!  Check out this post from Chris at IFailedFran for a great read on expectations and enjoying the process of the Open.

I posted this quote on Instagram the other day as a reminder to myself, but maybe it’ll motivate you too!  I might finish dead last in the Open, but I’ll be glad I at least tried.  I started.  Here we go!

  1. I promise you will not finish dead last in the open — I will be there, too! I’m thinking I’ll have to drop to 45 for the snatches to get 5. Or maybe even 35. They are easily the worst thing for me. Eek!

    I started to freak out because I’m pretty sure I will be the worst person at our box, BUT I’m just in it for a great workout. That’s what I’m telling myself!

  2. I’m right there with you as a Crossfit newbie. I hadn’t even done a snatch until this morning when we did the workout at the gym. But it’s fun to try! I’ve been loving your posts lately about being OK with uncomfortable. That’s exactly how I’ve felt since starting in October. But it gets better every week!
