Fuel For Fire: A Review & Giveaway

Disclosure: Fuel for Fire provided me with product to sample and review.  They will provide one sample pack to the giveaway winner.  I was not compensated in any way for this post and as always, all opinions are my own.

Okay, people.  Today we’re talking about some of my favorite things: food, nutrition and CrossFit.  A few months back, when shopping for Christmas gifts for boyfriend, I stumbled across this brand of fuel packs called Fuel for Fire.  I quickly checked the nutrition panel and ingredient list and was immediately on board.  I bought a sample pack for boyfriend’s stocking and he enjoyed them as pre-workout fuel over the next month or so.  He told me he loved all the flavors, but he’s sort of a garbage can when it comes to food, so I wasn’t 100% sure I could trust him! 😉

Fast forward a few months…I got in contact with the folks at Fuel for Fire and received some sample packs for myself!

fff2Here’s the deal…much like another fave brand of mine, FFF fuel packs were created as a way to pump up the nutrient content of products already on the market.  In this case, Creators Cindy Berg and Rob Gilfeather took fruit squeeze packets and added protein to meet the needs of active adults before, during and after workouts.  But what’s most important to me is keeping the focus on whole “real” foods…no artificial additives or flavorings and no crazy protein “blends”.

FFF has 10g of protein per pack and is gluten-free and paleo-friendly.  Great for those in the CF world who love their paleo diets! 😉  They come in 3 delicious flavors: Sweet Potato Apple (see nutrition facts panel & ingredient list below), Banana Cocoa and Tropical.

As you can see, each pack packs (see what I did there…) 100 calories, 15g of carbs and 10g of protein, making it an ideal boost for before or during a workout.  Fuel packs can also be used to quickly get some carbs and protein into your system after a tough workout–which is important to muscle recovery.  In terms of the ingredient list, I love that it’s short and simple.  I’m always a little skeptical of “natural flavors”, because it’s never clear what that exactly means.  Oh, the FDA! I could go on and on…Luckily, as far as we know, the amount of potential preservatives in these “natural flavors” is extremely small and not likely an issue.  So as long as the majority of your diet is still coming from whole foods that are as close to nature as you can get, I’m good with the natural flavoring in FFF.

As far as taste, I really liked every flavor, but Tropical was my favorite of the three!  The consistency is a tad thicker than a baby-food fruit squeeze pack, but that’s to be expected with the added protein.  The best part is that you can’t taste or “feel” the protein.  Anyone who has tried a protein shake or bar knows what I’m talking about here.  Most protein powders have a chalky mouth-feel and a nasty aftertaste.  Not the case with FFF!

Now for the best part of the post.  Fuel For Fire is offering a sample prize pack to one of you, my awesome readers!  Enter to win below using the Rafflecopter giveaway.  The winner will be announced next Wednesday, May 13th!  Good luck!

  1. Buddy, you’re the cutest in all of these pictures! If my buddy says these are good, then I must try them ASAP! Banana cocoa sounds kind of amazing, buuuut so does the tropical. I would just pretend I’m on an island and not about to get my butt kicked at Refine Method.
